The Need: Do

10 don’t answer security questions truthfully

You know those “secret questions” most web sites ask you as a security check if you try to reset your password?

Never put in the true answer to those questions. If someone knows you or nowadays if someone can search your social media accounts they can get answers to most of those questions.

In the early days of the internet those questions where a good idea. But even then they were simple questions that if people knew you they might be able to answer. To their credit sites are getting more creative with those questions so it is not so easy.

Something I have done and suggested to people for 10 years (and an idea that is gaining popularity in the security community) is to answer those questions with completely non related words or even a password like response and save them in your password manager. The password managers in the last chapter will let you save notes along with the password.
